The Art to Print (A2P) courses are an opportunity to work with experienced artists and designers in creating images for use in the commercial world. The images that you create will be placed in a portfolio and used to attract contract work for designing exciting and original products. These products will be such things as posters, leaflets, headed paper and other assorted visual displays that incorporate Art and design.
Course outline:
Week 1: Induction. This is an opportunity for you to hear about the course in more detail and how you may find it useful in your personal development.
Weeks 1-2: You will work with an experienced artist creating original images of your own with him/her. You will have the opportunity to develop this in interim revision sessions.
Week 3: Different kinds of lettering and how they are used is called Typography. This is a crucial part of designing. For example the shape, colour, size and placement of letters/words is crucial to how a poster (for example) communicates a message. To learn more about this you will work with a graphic designer.
Weeks 4 and 5: Most graphic design takes place on a computer. You will have the opportunity in these sessions to learn some basic computer design placing the artwork you created in weeks 1-2 on a computer and manipulating it using a design package.
Week 5 will include a short session to give you a chance to talk over what you have learned and store what you have created so that it can be used as part of the A2P portfolio. This will be followed by a Certificate presentation.
